About the Artist
Sir Alfred James Munnings, British, (1878-1959). Munnings, along with George Stubbs, is regarded as one of the two great English masters of Sporting Art. Originally apprenticed to a firm of lithographers, he excelled as a lithographic draftsman while also studying painting in evening classes and later attending the Academie Julien in Paris.
Munnings is best known for his studies of horses, horse racing, fox hunting and the way of life in rural England.
