Where are the penitents today? In a world replete with gluttony and the exaltation of ambition is it only our perspective that has changed, or are the purging flames but embers?
Ambition was originally among the Deadly Sins, but when it changed sides and became a virtue, Gluttony was summoned to take its place. And today, our adipose merits are considered through the prism of pork as pigs bear the symbolic load of all life’s overeating ills upon their backs, while glory falls to any creature who trods over the back of any other toward an excess of achievement.
