After a single uneventful year of life, most pigs become protein. Theirs are the days of perennial pork on plastic trays and congregations of all manner of uncertain sausages bound in serious circumstances.
Faith or philosophy tells us that happiness has to do with our inner mindset, not with outside circumstances. But we all still want to escape our circumstances, don’t we? Especially if we are pigs.

To escape, some procrastinate on their pillow, prod their pigs or prune their pear trees, while others write letters, attend meetings, ask questions and preside over this and that.
Yet for us all some certainty lingers… We know ourselves to be at the mercy of circumstance, just as we know that circumstance has no mercy.
