About the Artist:
Léon Barillot, France, (1844-1929), was a designer, painter and lithographer. Born in Montigny-lès-Metz, he first worked as a designer for his father who owned a wallpaper factory. Later he went to Paris to study at l’École des Beaux-Arts and the workshop of Léon Bonnat.
Barillot had a great interest in domestic animals and wildlife. as his technique and his knowledge of animals resulted in much success. He produced excellent landscapes, proving very adept at choosing settings, and creating great realism in the tone and intensity of light. And Barillot also extended his talent to pastels and etchings. He achieved much financial success and many awards in his career. [DES-01/16]
