About the Artist
Emile Claus, Belgian, (1849-1924), studied at the Academy of Antwerp. Later, influenced by Claud Monet, Claus developed a style that has been characterized as luminism.
Luminism is a late-impressionist style in painting which devotes great attention to light effects. In 1904 Claus started the artist group Vie et Lumière (Life and Light). [DES-4/07]
