About the Artist
Félicien Rops, Belgian, (1833-1898). Rops was a Belgian-born painter, etcher, and lithographer who spent the heights of his artistic career in France, mainly in Paris. Rops developed a reputation as an illustrator with an unusual imagination and an artist of great technical skill.
Today Rops is best known for the erotic nature of his work and his pictorial explorations into the world of vice. Women of all classes and all activities are present in a great part of his work.
