About the Artist
François Perrier (1590-1650) was a French painter and etcher. He lived and worked alternately in Rome and Paris. Perrier is best remembered for the publication in Paris of two great repertories of images of antique sculptures and icons as these provided visual repertories of classical models for generations of European artists and connoisseurs.
Perrier also worked on the decor for palazzo Peretti and he painted the ceiling of the gallery of the Hôtel de La Vrillière, now the seat of the Banque de France. The French city of Mâcon founded its Musée des Beaux-arts with a bequest of eight canvases by Perrier. [DES-01/11]
