About the Artist
Gaspard de Crayer, Dutch, (1584-1669). Gaspard de Crayer was a painter of allegories, portraits and religious compositions. The governors of the Netherlands, Albert and Isabella, as well as the Cardinal Ferdinand favored his work and he was made court painter.
Crayer’s works are found routinely in the churches and museums of Brussels and Ghent. And his popularity extended beyond these cities where there is scarcely a country chapel in Flanders or Brabant that cannot boast of one or more of his canvases.
