Pier Francesco Cittadini, Italy, (1615-1681) – art works include: Circe and Odysseus. Cittadini, also called il Milanese, was a Baroque painter, known for painting lush and rich still-lifes, portraits and religious or mythical scenes.
Emile Claus, Belgium, (1849-1924) – Le verger au printemps (The orchard in Spring). Claus, influenced by Claud Monet, developed a style that has been characterized as luminism, a late-impressionist style of painting which devotes great attention to light effects.
Sue Coe, England, (b. 1951) – art works include: Wheel of Fortune, Today’s Pig is Tomorrow’s Bacon, Porkopolis: Animals and Industry, and Standing Pig. Coe is a keen observer, a ‘graphic witness’ to realities more often overlooked or avoided. She is a journalist who uses printed images in preference to words.
Vojen Wilhelm Cech Colini, Czech, (1924-2010) – art works include: Temptation of Saint Anthony III and Meditation on the Passion. Colini works only in egg tempera, he developed a unique style – surrealism, with a Renaissance overlay.
Lovis Corinth, Germany, (1858-1925) – art works include: Slaughtered Pigs and November: Slaughtered Pig. Corinth was a painter, printer and etcher. He developed his own synthesis of impressionism and expressionism and was an important precursor and pioneer of German modernism.
Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, France, (1796-1875) – art works include: Gardeuses de Porce (The Swineherders) and Saint-André-en-Morvan. Corot was a painter who specialized in landscapes and worked in both romantic and realistic styles. Corot’s work is generally considered the forerunner of the impressionistic style. Corot did not idealize, he preferred to represented nature realistically and in doing so brought a new and personal style to the Classical traditions of the composed landscape.
