Ireland, (1941-1982)
The Day the Pig Was Killed
- I lay on my bed
- on a fine spring morning
- I lay on my bed
- under a coverlet of kisses
- I lay there without
- bothering my head
- about my newly gained status
- – a first class degree.
- I lay there in bed
- as snug as a bug
- when the shriek tore like a knife
- my nest in the heart of the rug
- and the kiss tore from my heart
- the knife in the heart of the pig.
